[I stole this format from Amy :) ]
- your education background
(what does this guy wanna see my resume? or maybe CV?)
I turned Korean 50 this January, so that started a long time ago ;). my elementary school was in Arizona and from 5th grade(I think it was 5th), we moved to Amarillo, TX where I finished up public school. Then it was on to the University of Arizona where I bounced around in subjects. At the beginning I dual majored in astronomy and physics, but ended up with a degree in English (which at UA, meant British) literature. I took a post-baccalaureate degree in education to try and find a public school position, but there just were not any available, so it was off to Japan. After 7 years there I went to study language education at Indiana University for a masters. more international work, and then to the university of Illinois in Urbana Champaign for a PhD in educational psychology [if you wondering, Amy and Yeojin, it is finally done :P ]
- your current teaching situation
I guess you mostly know my teaching situation. I teach you all.
- how you teach reading and writing now
I do teach a couple of writing classes which focus on academic writing. I tend to support a process approach. perhaps it is reflecting my own bias, because even though I know that I studied skills a lot as a kid in public school, it seem like the most important thing in getting a paper/project finished is just moving step by completable step.
- your vision of your teaching 5 years from now
not really sure . . . as I publish more, I imagine I will teach less. that would be because the university would want more from me . . . administrative this and that and going off to more conferences to make presentation, and spending more time writing, and becoming eligible for sabbatical years . . .
